You could be flushing away a free source of energy.</div> <p>In 2005, Scientists in Singapore developed a battery powered by urine. The Scientists were able to produce electric power using liquid as a catalyst thanks to a special mixture of magnesium and carbon inside the batteries.</p> <p><img src="http://crunchgear.com/wp-content/uploads/nopopo_battery.jpg" border="0"><br> <span id="more-4886"></span><br> Now, a Japanese company has brought this urine powered battery technology to market with the NoPoPo (Non-Pollution Power) Aqua Batteries. Just use the included plastic pipette to inject urine into the <span style="border-bottom: 1px solid; color: rgb(0, 0, 255); text-decoration: underline; padding-bottom: 1px;">battery chamber</span>. Grossed out by pee? You can also use other types of liquid including beer, apple juice, cola, and saliva and of course urine. When I first heard about the NoPoPo, I thought it might be a joke. Making silly inventions is a popular hobby in Japan called Chingdogu. But the NoPoPo is no joke.</p> <p>A single urine powered AA battery can power a flashlight for about 20 hours (500 milliamp-hours). Not exactly the most powerful battery on the shelf, but it's a great start for this environmentally friendly energy technology. The NoPoPo aqua powered batteries are currently only available in both <a name="B000BYR7WE" id="amzn_cl_link_1" style="border-bottom: 1px solid; color: rgb(0, 0, 255); text-decoration: underline; padding-bottom: 1px;" target="_blank" href="http://amazon.com/gp/product/B000BYR7WE?ie=UTF8&tag=techgadgetrev-20&link_code=em1&camp=212341&creative=384061&creativeASIN=B000BYR7WE&adid=067c46cc-38b9-4f15-9899-e0c2e8c4ac42"> AA and AAA</a> sizes, but the company has future plans to produce all common battery sizes.</p> <p>Off the top of my head, here are just a few reasons why you should love the NoPoPo:</p> <ul><li>used batteries contain mercury and are bad for the environment</li><li>using your own body fluids to power batteries will save you money</li><li>it's a reliable source of power for life saving tools like flashlights and radios </li><li>people who live in remote areas and don't have access to fresh batteries can now use battery powered gadgets and technology</li></ul> blinkrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16148210636494869067noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8564746273614900238.post-13373139473056496552007-08-27T10:06:00.001+08:002007-08-27T10:06:54.012+08:00JUICE SOLAR TOTE from ReWare<h4><a href="http://www.inhabitat.com/2007/08/26/reware-solar-backpacks/">link</a></h4><p><img src="http://www.inhabitat.com/wp-content/uploads/juicebag1.jpg" alt="Solar backpack, solar tote, solar bag, solar-powered bag, juice bags, reware, green bags"> </p> <p>Here's the perfect carry-all solution if you're headed back to school but just don't want summer to end- the <a href="http://www.rewarestore.com/product/beachtote.html">Juice solar tote</a> from <a href="http://www.rewarestore.com/"> Reware</a> is big enough for your new textbooks, but beach ready for your last few Indian summer adventures. Here's a taste:</p> <blockquote><p>European market forces such as Ecodesign, consumer choices and ecolabels are beginning to change the practice of design at the most fundamental levels. It is no more just a matter of a greener product or choosing a less toxic component or material. It requires an understanding of the entire production process, distribution and marketing system on a global scale, and the way that systems are being redesigned to meet these criteria. These trends also imply sea changes in the way businesses are organized and the way they function...</p></blockquote> <p><a href="http://www.core77.com/reactor/08.07_ecodesign.asp">read article</a></p>... blinkrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16148210636494869067noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8564746273614900238.post-72482192058334364532007-08-07T11:22:00.001+08:002007-08-07T11:22:39.112+08:00Second Rotation : Recycle your old tech, get cashfrom: <a href="http://www.core77.com/blog/object_culture/second_rotation_recycle_your_old_tech_get_cash_7046.asp">core77</a><br> <p> </p><p><img alt="secondrot.jpg" src="http://www.core77.com/blog/images/secondrot.jpg" height="242" width="468"></p> <p>Trashing your old electronics weighs on your conscience, <a href="http://www.core77.com/blog/object_culture/dispose_of_your_pc_responsibly_at_staples_6394.asp">recycling them at Staples</a> <em>costs</em> you money, and you couldn't even pay your friends take your old fax machine, but a new option, <a href="http://www.secondrotation.com/press/sr_launch">Second Rotation</a>, actually rewards you for taking the responsible route. My friend Katie was the first to tell me about the above <A href="http://www.anyahindmarch.com/">Anya Hindmarch</A> tote a few weeks ago, before she went to Paris. She was looking forward to getting her hands on one while in Europe (I guess she got a little distracted getting engaged or something!) Then <A href="http:www.latimes.com/image">the Image section of the L.A. I have accidently started a little bit of a tote collection and I wouldn't mind adding this to it. For groceries though? I don't know, is that a little pretentious? Great beach bag though. Oh and Katie, good news: in case you missed it, the bag will be available for sale in L.A. on Sunday, June 20th at the Anya Hindmarch store on Robertson Blvd. I've already marked my calendar.</p> <DIV></DIV> <br /> </DIV></blockquote></div><div style="margin: 0px 6px 6px 4px;"><table style="font-size: 11px;border-spacing: 0px;padding: 0px;" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%"><tr><td style="background:transparent;border-width:0px;padding:0px;"> </td><td align="right" style="background:transparent;border-width:0px;padding:0px;width:107px" width="107"><a href="http://clipmarks.com/share/9A1B95DF-CF06-4639-812D-A71C43AA3632/blog/" title="blog or email this clip"><img src="http://content2.clipmarks.com/images/c2b-foot.png" border="0" alt="blog it" width="107" height="17" style="border-width:0px;padding:0px;margin:0px;" /></a></td></tr></table></div><!-- END_CLIP_CONTENT --></td></tr></table> blinkrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16148210636494869067noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8564746273614900238.post-15523545664898077332007-03-23T15:16:00.001+08:002007-03-23T15:16:08.281+08:00Solio, a solar charger<a href="http://www.solio.com/html/shop_picture.php?file=WehCWcjsX.jpg" onclick="NewWindow(this.href,'naddme','400','400','no');return false"> <img src="http://www.solio.com/shop_pictures/extra/WehCWcjsX.jpg" border="0" height="75" width="84"> </a> <br><a href="http://www.solio.com/v2/"><span style="font-weight: bold;">solio </span></a>is a portable battery charger for small devices like Ipod, pda, digitalcameras...<br><br> blinkrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16148210636494869067noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8564746273614900238.post-54767503745718328152007-03-23T15:02:00.001+08:002007-03-23T15:02:59.398+08:00How To Green Your Electronics<a class="plink" title="Permalink for 'How To Green Your Electronics'" href="http://ecodesign.blinkr.net/TreeHugger/2007/03/22/How_To_Green_Your_Electronics"> </a><a target="_blank" href="http://feeds.treehugger.com/%7Er/treehuggersite/%7E3/103684113/how-to-green-your-electronics.php">How To Green Your Electronics</a><br><img alt="htggreen_electronics_banner.jpg" src="http://i.treehugger.com/images/2007-3-21/htggreen_electronics_banner.jpg"> <br>What's the Big Deal? Yes, electronic devices are becoming a bigger and bigger part of our lives, especially as they get smaller and smaller. We use them as tools and toys to communicate, work, enjoy media, and be expressive. Being green with electronics doesn't mean living in a teepee listening to truckers squalk on the old short-wave. Greening your electronics is a matter of knowing what tech to get, how to use it best, and what to do with it when its useful life is done. Many of these best practices aren't things you'll read in the instruction manual, either. In this guide we'll tell you how to stop wasted energy, what gizmos are greener than others, and what to do about e-waste and electronics recycling. We'll also show you some of the newest green gadgets coming over the horizon.<br><br> <a href="http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007/03/how-to-green-your-electronics.php#top10" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()" onmouseover="MM_swapImage('Top Ten Tips','','http://i.treehugger.com/images/howto/top10tips_on.jpg',1)"> <img src="http://i.treehugger.com/images/howto/top10tips_off.jpg" alt="Top Ten Tips" name="Top Ten Tips" id="Top Ten Tips" border="0" height="25" width="216"></a><a href="http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007/03/how-to-green-your-electronics.php#hardcore" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()" onmouseover="MM_swapImage('Bigger Options','','http://i.treehugger.com/images/howto/biggeroptions_on.jpg',0)"> <img src="http://i.treehugger.com/images/howto/biggeroptions_off.jpg" alt="Bigger Options" name="Bigger Options" id="Bigger Options" border="0" height="25" width="252"></a><a href="http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007/03/how-to-green-your-electronics.php#numbers" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()" onmouseover="MM_swapImage('By the Numbers','','http://i.treehugger.com/images/howto/numbers_on.jpg',0)"> <img src="http://i.treehugger.com/images/howto/numbers_off.jpg" alt="By the Numbers" name="By the Numbers" id="By the Numbers" border="0" height="25" width="216"></a><a href="http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007/03/how-to-green-your-electronics.php#techie" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()" onmouseover="MM_swapImage('Getting Techie','','http://i.treehugger.com/images/howto/gettingtechie_on.jpg',0)"> <img src="http://i.treehugger.com/images/howto/gettingtechie_off.jpg" alt="Getting Techie" name="Getting Techie" id="Getting Techie" border="0" height="25" width="252"></a><a href="http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007/03/how-to-green-your-electronics.php#studies" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()" onmouseover="MM_swapImage('Case Studies','','http://i.treehugger.com/images/howto/casestudies_on.jpg',0)"> <img src="http://i.treehugger.com/images/howto/casestudies_off.jpg" alt="Case Studies" name="Case Studies" id="Case Studies" border="0" height="25" width="216"></a><a href="http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007/03/how-to-green-your-electronics.php#further" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()" onmouseover="MM_swapImage('Further Information','','http://i.treehugger.com/images/howto/further_on.jpg',0)"> <img src="http://i.treehugger.com/images/howto/further_off.jpg" alt="Further Information" name="Further Information" id="Further Information" border="0" height="25" width="252"></a><a href="http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007/03/how-to-green-your-electronics.php#getit" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()" onmouseover="MM_swapImage('Where to Get It','','http://i.treehugger.com/images/howto/getit_on-left.jpg',0)"> <img src="http://i.treehugger.com/images/howto/getit_off-left.jpg" alt="Get IT!" name="Where to Get It" id="Where to Get It" border="0" height="25" width="216"></a><a href="http://www.treehugger.com/gogreen.php" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()" onmouseover="MM_swapImage('Back to Home','','http://i.treehugger.com/images/howto/home_on.jpg',0)"> <img src="http://i.treehugger.com/images/howto/home_on.jpg" alt="Take me home." name="Back to Home" id="Back to Home" border="0" height="25" width="252"></a><br> blinkrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16148210636494869067noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8564746273614900238.post-23015103396309553962007-03-21T12:08:00.001+08:002007-03-21T12:08:51.262+08:00New Solar-Powered Phone Unveiled<a class="plink" title="Permalink for 'New Solar-Powered Phone Unveiled'" href="http://ecodesign.blinkr.net/TreeHugger/2007/03/20/New_Solar-Powered_Phone_Unveiled"> </a><a href="http://feeds.treehugger.com/%7Er/treehuggersite/%7E3/103052783/new_solarpowere.php"><img alt="solar_phone.jpg" src="http://www.treehugger.com/solar_phone.jpg"></a> <br>At <a target="_blank" href="http://www.cebit.de/">CeBIT 2007</a>, Chinese electronics maker, HTW, introduced a cell phone that can be charged by the sun. It gets 25 minutes of talk time from just 40 minutes of charging in sunlight, it can be charged with indoor light when no direct sunshine is available and even candlelight. Called the 'Light-Energy Mobile Phone', it is a relatively slender clamshell with an 84 x 47.6 x 0.8mm solar panel built into the flip side. As for the practicalities of putting such a handset on the market, Hi-Tech says the panel is encased in toughened glass and would stand up to all the rigors of a regular mobile. :: Via: <a Great for people who spend a lot of time walking and biking in the sunny outdoors (extra green points for not driving as much!) A bold Green fashion statement.</p> <p>When attached, the external solar panels compliment the jacket's design. The solar panels charge a small battery keep inside the jacket. The battery powers your device almost immediately after the solar panels are exposed to sunlight. Once the battery is fully charged, the panels can be removed and your portable electronic device can tap into the stored power.</p> <p>$150.00 at <a target="_blank" title="Solar Panel Jacket" href="http://www.scottevest.com/v3_store/access_solar.shtml">scottevest.com</a> </p> </div> blinkrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16148210636494869067noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8564746273614900238.post-75054864536860879432007-03-14T11:47:00.001+08:002007-03-14T11:47:41.900+08:00Greener Printing OptionsYesterday's post examined some eco-friendly options for computer printing paper. Today I wanted to look and see about any greener options for a printers on the market. <p>As you probably know, the big companies making printers: Epson, HP, Canon, etc often sell their printers at cost or even below cost so you will be forced to use their proprietary ink cartridges sold at exorbitant prices. Refilling these cartridges yourself is one way to beat the system, and their are many solutions on the web in terms of good quality inks and refilling systems and kits. <a href="http://Echostore.com">Echostore.com</a> has a variety of <a title="refill ink - echostore.com" target="_blank" href="http://www.echostore.com/coinksy.html">options to refill your ink cartridges </a>and seems reasonably priced.</p> If the thought of doing this all yourself seems too messy or worrisome then you might consider going to your nearest Walgreens, apparently they now have a program to refill your printer cartridges. <a title="walgreens refill" target="_blank" href="http://www.walgreens.com/store/promotion/printer_refills/default.jsp?ban=ribbons_inkjet">Here is a link to more info. </a> I found this information about walgreens at <a title="worstedwitch printer article" target="_blank" href="http://www.worstedwitch.com/?cat=9">worstedwitch.com</a> has a terrific post on ecological issues around print cartridges. blinkrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16148210636494869067noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8564746273614900238.post-59492507500674071642007-03-14T11:46:00.001+08:002007-03-14T11:46:45.679+08:00Water powered Clock <div class="entry"> <p><img alt="Water Powered Clock" id="image151" src="http://greatgreengadgets.com/gadgets/wp-content/uploads/2007/03/water_powered_clock.jpg"><strong><br></strong></p><p><strong>Water Powered Clock</strong> at <a target="_blank" title="ThinkGeek.com Link" href="http://www.thinkgeek.com/homeoffice/lights/757e/"> ThinkGeek.com </a><strong>12.99</strong></p> <p>Ok, maybe we won't save the planet from Global Warming with this water powered cutey - but with this clock on your desk you'll show co-workers your greener side. Not so green? Then give your inner jock a chance, this baby will even run on beer! (seriously!) Maniacal workaholic Starbucks Freak? Also runs on coffee! Any liquid basically. The clock somehow extracts electrons from liquid molecules and provides a steady stream of electrical current acting as a fuel cell to generate power to the clock. ThinkGeek also has <a target="_blank" title="ThinkGeek Desk set" href="http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/electronic/8db9/">a water powered Desk Set</a> with a calculator and another clock (although not as cool looking as the one shown here) also for $12.99 </p> </div> blinkrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16148210636494869067noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8564746273614900238.post-78317428073319492832007-03-14T11:45:00.001+08:002007-03-14T11:45:45.637+08:00Wind Up Powered Lantern and phone charger for emergencies <div class="entry"> <p><img alt="Wind Up Lantern" id="image153" src="http://greatgreengadgets.com/gadgets/wp-content/uploads/2007/03/winduplantern.jpg"><strong>Dynamo 15 LED Lantern, Alarm & Phone Charger</strong></p> <p>From <a target="_blank" title="link to nobatteryledlight.com" href="http://www.nobatteryledlight.com/?gclid=CPjFhKK02YoCFQlaPgodREQb2A">"no battery led light.com" </a> $49.95</p> <p>Climate scientists predict that as global warming worsens there will be an <a target="_blank" title="climate change and severe weather links" href="http://www.climateark.org/links/Impacts/Extreme_Weather/welcome.asp"> increased chance of hurricanes, tornadoes, and other severe weather</a>. Combine that with unpredictable power grids, peak oil and the increasing prevalence of wacko's with cars (who are likely to ram into power line poles) and you have a real disaster in the waiting.</p> <p>The Dynamo Wind Up lantern comes to the rescue just in time to provide light, charge your phone, and sound the alarm. Just wind it up for one minute for 5-8 minutes of light. Wind it up for 5 minutes and get 15-20 minutes of light and 5 minutes of time for talking on your cellphone. Better still, get your partner or teenager to do the winding and save yourself the carpal-tunnel syndrome! nobatteryledlights has many other models and types to choose from - some much cheaper and others with less wind-up needed. <a target="_blank" title="more possibilities in wind up" href="http://www.nobatteryledlight.com/?gclid=CPjFhKK02YoCFQlaPgodREQb2A">Check out the possibilities here.</a> </p> </div> blinkrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16148210636494869067noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8564746273614900238.post-39447122314288028522007-03-14T11:31:00.001+08:002007-03-14T11:31:20.662+08:00Car made from old pepsi bottles saves gas<p><img alt="!cid_000301c7619e$e0bcdff0$2f01a8c0@d5khf691.jpg" src="http://www.core77.com/blog/%21cid_000301c7619e%24e0bcdff0%242f01a8c0%40d5khf691.jpg"></p> <p><em>The Hyundai QarmaQ concept is pushing the envelope in crossover utility vehicle design and construction. By the utilization of a high content of recycled plastics, derived mostly from discarded soft drink bottles, and some 29 other design, construction and material innovations, the QarmaQ boasts a weight reduction of 130 lbs as compared to vehicles of similar size and class. The designers claim that this results in a reduction in fuel usage equal to about one and a half SUV fuel tanks per vehicle per year. Granted, that may not seem like much when viewed on an individual vehicle basis, but multiply it by the total number of SUVs on the road and that's a lot of gallons saved.</em></p> <p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2007/03/10/hyundai-teams-with-ge-plastics/">full story</a></p> blinkrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16148210636494869067noreply@blogger.com0
